For Oregon fans hoping to see Dante Moore sign that dotted line next week, it’s going to be a long way to the finish line.

First, there was heavy speculation that Michigan State would swoop in and flip the 5-star quarterback and Duck commit. Then there was a brief moment where Buckeye fans thought Ohio State could get in on the Moore sweepstakes before the team swiped Washington’s quarterback. Now, it seems that UCLA is a threat to poach the Detroit (Mich.) King star.

Moore took an official visit to UCLA over the weekend and seemed to enjoy his time in Westwood. UCLA fans kicked up the “Dante 2 LA” hashtag on Twitter, and then on Thursday the buzz was seemingly validated by 247Sports’ recruiting director. Steve Wiltfong reported that the Bruins are very much a threat.

From Wiltfong:

“He said he really liked it,” King head coach Ty Spencer said. “He said he really liked his visit at UCLA. Of course Chip Kelly is very knowledgeable, coached a lot of good quarterbacks.”

Spencer added Moore is “thinking for sure” about the opportunity and his future.

The buzz is favoring UCLA at this point. We don’t expect Moore to take it to Signing Day, giving Oregon a chance to pivot off they have to.

This offseason, UCLA will say goodbye to Dorian Thompson-Robinson. DTR has been a starter for five consecutive seasons in Westwood, and his departure will open the door for a full-blown quarterback competition. Oregon is in a slightly different spot.

Bo Nix could opt to return to Eugene for a fifth season of college ball. Such a decision would all but assure Moore would spend his first year of college ball in a reserve capacity. Oregon fans are still waiting to find out what Nix decides to do, but with the Early Signing Period set to open next Wednesday, they could get some finality on the Moore front sooner rather than later.

Moore has been an Oregon commit since before the season. Time and time again, he has reaffirmed that commitment.

He was asked directly about Michigan State rumors in mid-November and said he was “locked in” with Oregon. Then, after Kenny Dillingham left to take the head coaching job at Arizona State, Wiltfong reported that Moore was “not wavering” in his pledge to Oregon.

Coach Dan Lanning has built a relationship with Moore from the beginning. New Oregon O.C. Will Stein was reportedly out in Detroit to meet with Moore last week.
