The Arizona Board of Regents set a surprise virtual meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 1 on Monday, according to Arizona beat writer Jason Scheer.

The agenda for the meeting is unknown as of 7:30 ET Monday evening.

Here’s why this is a potentially significant development: The scheduled meeting comes just after Colorado’s Board of Regents met to unanimously approve the Buffaloes move back to the Big 12 from the Pac-12. With the Pac-12 conference roster down to 9 and the Big 12 openly campaigning for new members, Arizona as well as Arizona State could be targets.

The Arizona Board of Regents are shared in coverage by Arizona, Arizona State and Northern Arizona.

A report from Friday by 247Sports’ Brandon Marcello stated that the Big 12 is currently targeting Arizona. That report also stated that the Arizona Board of Regents has “expressed a desire” for UA to remain in the same conference as Arizona State.

Currently, the Big 12 has 13 teams scheduled for the 2024-25 season when Colorado is set to join.
