One of the biggest transfer prizes of the offseason is no doubt Incarnate Word quarterback Cameron Ward.

Ward threw for 4,648 yards and 47 touchdowns with 10 interceptions this fall, helping UIW to the second round of the FCS playoffs. He owns school records for career passing touchdowns (71) and yardage (6,908). And he’s one of the hottest names in the portal.

He’ll announce his commitment on Monday at 5 p.m. PT. Ward is choosing between Ole Miss, Washington State, Houston, Prairie View A&M, and a return to UIW.

The Cougars are a serious threat to land Ward’s services.

Washington State head coach Jake Dickert recently hired Eric Morris to be his new offensive coordinator. Morris was Ward’s offensive coordinator this past season as the duo helped power UIW to a 10-3 record and the Southland Conference title. Ward entered the transfer portal shortly after Morris’ departure.

Washington State offered him after the Sun Bowl game. And earlier this week, WSU starting quarterback Jayden de Laura abruptly entered the transfer portal. Morris will look to deploy the same kind of attack at Washington State that Ward excelled in at UIW.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound junior has three seasons of eligibility remaining. As the Cougars look to build off of a seven-win season in 2021, Ward is likely an important domino.
