Jake Dickert is trying to get his Washington State program ready to face Arizona State in Week 9. The Cougars are certainly in need of a rebound game after a 3-game losing streak punctuated by the loss to Oregon.

Now, Washington State must turn around and hit the road again, this time with a trip to Arizona State. Dickert’s squad will also be a bit shorthanded with the head coach confirming Dylan Paine will be out this weekend.

Paine is the team’s 3rd-leading rusher with 121 yards this season but has averaged 6.1 yards per carry. Without him in the lineup, Dickert says Washington State will move forward with Nakia Watson, Djouvensky Schlenbaker and Leo Pulalasi.

“Dylan’s going to be out for this game, high-ankle sprain,” confirmed Dickert. “Djouvensky’s ready. Leo is getting ready himself. We need big things out of Nakia. We need one of those big games. Obviously, the protection game is going to be huge. Not just as a part of the RB’s job, they have a very complicated pressure scheme.”

Overall, Dickert called on his team to be detail-oriented in the matchup against the Sun Devils.

“But we gotta live in the details this week. I mean it. I’ve been scout (team) DC this week, it’s been fun yet extremely frustrating. But at the same time, we gotta live in the details,” Dickert explained. “When we see something that we got on tape and we know we’re seeing it, we’ve got to execute in those moments.”

Saturday’s kickoff from Tempe is set for 5 p.m. PT.
