Jake Dickert and Washington State came up just short in the Apple Cup rivalry against Washington. One play in particular will linger for a while in the minds of Dickert and the Cougars.

With the game tied at 21-all, Washington faced a 4th-and-1 from its own 29-yard line with a minute to play. The Huskies converted in dramatic fashion and a roughing the passer call on the ensuing play allowed Washington to jump from its own 29 to Washington State’s 27-yard line in two plays.

As for the penalty, it was controversial in nature. Penix was hit slightly late after delivering the ball, but Washington State’s Ron Stone Jr. appeared to let up and did not fall on top of Penix or drive the QB to the ground.

Dickert admitted in his press conference that he felt the call was “a BS call at the wrong time.” He also said the referee in the game is probably one of the best in the league, but that doesn’t change Dickert’s immediate reaction.

“At the end of the game, it didn’t look like a personal foul to me. I’ve got to see what the tape says,” said Dickert. “I’m going to reserve right, I think Matt’s probably the best white hat in the league. I think it’s a BS call at the wrong time. I do.

“I gotta see it. Live and in color, I don’t quite know if it warranted that, but I’ve got to see what it says.”
