Jake Dickert asked again about Michigan State job amid MSU search rumors
Jake Dickert continues to get questions about Michigan State.
Dickert is among the many coaches rumored to be a candidate for the MSU job. In a recent interview with John Canzano, Dickert was asked specifically if he had talked to or met with Michigan State while WSU was on a bye in Week 5.
“I have not talked to a single person, not just in the bye week, but any week,” Dickert said. “You know, I love being here and I don’t need to defend my position here at Washington State. This is a job that I’m here to do and move our program forward and into the future. We’re excited about that, and that’s been our only focus really the whole time.”
Dickert was pressed again on if he has had communication with any other programs.
“I haven’t talked to any schools, ever,” Dickert told Canzano.
Dickert’s latest comments are similar to what he said in a press conference earlier this month. Dickert did not reference Michigan State directly in either answer.
Fans may attempt to read between the lines of Dickert’s answers. It’s well known in the college football world that agents handle much of the communication when it comes to jobs, especially during the season. Agents are also known to instruct their clients to choose their words carefully when asked about jobs.
WSU has displayed steady improvement under Dickert. The Cougars went 3-3 during Dickert’s time as interim head coach in 2021. Wazzu posted a 7-6 record in 2022 and is off to a 4-2 start this season.
Until Dickert states directly that he is not interested in being the next head coach at Michigan State, he can expect to continue to get questions about the Spartans.
