Just a few days after news broke he planned to leave the Oregon Ducks’ 2022 class, 4-star guard Dior Johnson has a new top-three.

The 6-foot-3 guard announced on Sunday a list that includes Pitt, Mississippi State, and Washington State.

Johnson committed to Oregon in June of 2021. He signed with the program in November of 2021. Since the season ended, though, the Ducks have added a pair of guard transfers and learned that last year’s leading scorer, Will Richardson, planned to return for the 2022-23 season.

That decision seemingly prompted Johnson—who would play more of a supporting role in his first season with the Ducks—to back off his pledge and look to explore other options. Having signed an LOI, he needed the Ducks to release him.

The talented scorer ranks as the 37th overall prospect in the 2022 class, per the 247 Composite. Johnson’s rated as the seventh-best point guard in his class and the fifth-best prospect from the state of California. Johnson has bounced around as a prospect, playing for 10 different high schools in five different states.

Johnson initially committed to Syracuse way back in February of 2020 but decommitted nine months later. In May 2021, he released a top five that featured Oregon, Kentucky, Alabama, Washington, and the NBL, the pro league in Australia and New Zealand.

To land on his radar now is a win for coach Kyle Smith and the Cougars, who need to replace both of last year’s starting guards.
