Washington was faced with a fourth-and-1 from its own 29-yard-line with 1:11 on the clock in a tied game. The Apple Cup was on the line. An unbeaten record was on the line. A loss would make the path to the College Football Playoff a bit more challenging.

The Huskies initially sent out the punt team. After a timeout, coach Kalen DeBoer sent the offense out onto the field and lined Michael Penix Jr. up in the shotgun. Rome Odunze ran an orbit motion around the back of the formation and UW faked a handoff to Dillon Johnson.

The play-fake was executed so perfectly the FOX camera crew didn’t even know who had the football. When the camera operator found the ball, Odunze was running with it down the left side of the field for not just a first down, but 23 yards.

Odunze made the first man miss and pushed the ball across the 50.

A roughing the passer penalty on the very next play then pushed a 6-yard gain all the way down to the Wazzu 27.

UW picked 5 yards on a third-and-4 run to convert and keep the drive alive.

Three plays later, UW kicker Grady Gross knocked through a 42-yard field goal to walk off a 24-21 win over the Cougars.

The field goal from Gross secured a perfect 12-0 regular season for the Huskies. It’s just the second time in program history UW has reached that mark.

Washington now gets to turn its attention to the Pac-12 Championship Game next Friday, where it will once again face off against Oregon.
