Washington stating defensive back Mishael Powell reportedly entered the transfer portal Friday afternoon, becoming the first player to opt to play elsewhere in 2024 following reports that Kalen DeBoer will be Alabama’s next head coach.

Powell started in every game for Washington and totaled 38 tackles with 3 interceptions and 6 pass deflections. He returned one of his 3 interceptions the distance for a touchdown against Arizona State.

The 3rd-year starter has seen action in 36 games for Washington since arriving in 2019. He redshirted in 2019 and used a Covid-19 exempt year and will have 1 season of eligibility remaining as a result.

And by a significant margin, 2023 was his best season in college football. Powell had his 2022 season derailed by injury and saw a strong start in Seattle during the 2021 campaign.

Powell is one of 4 Washington defensive backs to enter the portal since it opened in early December. He joins cornerbacks Vincent Nunley, Jaivion Green and Jackson Berman.
