Washington lands commitment from the No. 2 shooting guard in the 2023 class
Mike Hopkins and the Huskies went down to Texas for their first commitment of the 2023 class, and it was quite a significant one.
Beaumont (Texas) United shooting guard Wesley Yates III announced his commitment to Washington on Wednesday during a ceremony at his school. UW beat out Auburn, Texas, LSU, and Stanford, among others.

Yates told 247Sports that Quincy Pondexter’s presence on staff was a plus for Washington โ he is Pondexter’s cousin โ and he expects to play right away. And he certainly seems built for it.
The 6-foot-4 off-guard is a dominant scorer. He ranks as the 30th overall recruit in the 2023 class, according to the industry-generated 247 Composite, as well as the No. 2 shooting guard. He averaged 20 points a game as a junior last season while shooting 44% from the field and 35% from the 3-point line.
He’s a bucket-getter, and a big-time addition for Hopkins.
