Rome Odunze might be tougher than Washington fans realize after playing through a broken rib and punctured lung.

Odunze suffered the injuries against Arizona earlier this year while attempting to recover an onside kick. The Washington receiver stayed in the hospital until about 5 in the morning after the game. Then, his mother and 2 trainers from Washington took turns driving him back to Seattle.

Fast forward to 2 weeks later, after a bye, and Odunze played a huge role in the Huskies’ win over Oregon. Odunze accounted for 128 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns, 1 of which was the game-winner, as UW beat the Ducks 36-33.

It’s apparent that Odunze is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win, even if that means playing with a broken rib and punctured lung. Odunze hasn’t missed a game for Washington this year and is the team’s leading receiver with 1,428 yards.

Washington faces Texas next in the College Football Playoff Semifinal on New Year’s Day. Kickoff will be at 5:45 p.m. PT on ESPN.
