Kalen DeBoer has been a coach in the Pac-12 for two seasons. He has gone 2-for-2 as the Pac-12 Coach of the Year.

On Tuesday, DeBoer was announced as the 2023 Coach of the Year. Last season, he shared the honor with Oregon State’s Jonathan Smith. This time around, after leading Washington to a Pac-12 title and the College Football Playoff, the honor belongs solely to Washington’s leading man.

Don James won the award three times in total. He’s the only other Husky head coach to do so. DeBoer is also the first coach to earn the honor in back-to-back seasons since David Shaw in 2011 and 2012.

UW has won 20 consecutive games, the longest active winning streak in the FBS. The Huskies became just the second team in conference history to go 9-0 in conference play this season and, with 13 overall wins, set a program record for victories in a season.

After coming over from Fresno State in 2022, DeBoer has enjoyed an unprecedented run of success as the Huskies’ leading man.

He has won 11 games in each of his first two seasons at Washington — the first coach in program history to win at least 11 games in consecutive years. He’s just the third head coach in conference history to reach 11 wins in each of his first two seasons (Oregon’s Mark Helfrich 2013-14 and Stanford’s David Shaw 2011-13) and only the sixth head coach to do it at any point in their tenure.

DeBoer is 5-0 against teams that were ranked in the AP Top 25 at the time of the meeting. He is 3-0 against AP Top 10 teams. He is 14-0 inside Husky Stadium to begin his career. And he is 5-0 against Oregon and Washington State.

UW will meet No. 3 Texas in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff on Jan. 1 at 5:45 p.m. PT on ESPN.
