The Utes have another defender for the 2023 class.

Johnathan Hall, a 3-star linebacker/safety from Katy, Texas, announced his commitment to Utah on Saturday. He chose the Utes over a group of finalists that also included the Texas Longhorns and the Missouri Tigers.

Utah hosted the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder on an official visit the first weekend of June. He rates as a 3-star in the 247 Composite, the 50th-ranked linebacker and the 633rd-ranked overall recruit in the 2023 class.

As a junior last fall, he played in the Katy secondary and spent some time at linebacker. He’s a well-built defender with some positional versatility at the next level thanks to his size. He likes to play in the box, where he displays some solid instincts and explodes through the ball carrier.

His pledge gives the Utes their ninth known commitment for the 2023 class. You can view his highlight tape below, via Hudl:
