The Utah Utes received some good news when it came to the transfer portal on Wednesday.

According to 247Sports, JaTravis Broughton has withdrawn his name from the portal and will return to the Utes for 2024. Broughton entered the portal on Tuesday, but the experienced defensive back quickly changed his mind.

Broughton has been a starter for the Utes in each of the last 4 seasons. The DB collected 37 tackles and defended 2 passes in 2023. Through parts of 5 seasons with the Utes, Broughton has 92 tackles, 9 pass defenses, and 1 interception.

The Utes have seen an exodus via the transfer portal, especially in the secondary. Defensive backs Jadon Pearson, Kenzel Lawler, Faybian Marks, Jocelyn Malaska, and Darrien Stewart have all entered the portal thus far. DB Kenan Johnson was added from Georgia Tech via the portal.

Keeping Broughton in the fold should help soften the blow from the other losses. The Utes finished the 2023 season with the No. 13 total defense in the nation.
