Kyle Whittingham confirmed to reporters Tuesday night that kicker Jadon Redding has left the program.

When the Utes released a two-deep for the Rose Bowl, Redding was notably absent. Whittingham acknowledged the departure when he met with local media Tuesday evening, saying simply that Redding is no longer on the roster. According to The Salt Lake Tribune’s Josh Newman, Redding is not in the transfer portal.

Jordan Noyes will serve as the starter for the Rose Bowl on Jan. 2. Utah will open up competition for the backup spot.

Redding was a First Team All-Pac-12 selection during the COVID-shortened 2020 season after going a perfect 17-for-17 on PATs and 8-for-8 on field goals.

Since, he has been a bit more inconsistent as the Utes have gone back and forth between Noyes and Redding. Over the last two seasons, Redding was 14-for-20 on field goal attempts with three missed extra points.

Both Redding and Noyes also split time handling kickoff duties this season. Redding took 38 kickoffs, Noyes 47. Noyes has boomed more touchbacks (17 to 11) but he has also put four kickoffs out of bounds, something Redding hadn’t yet done.

Noyes is 6-for-8 on field goals this season, but hasn’t attempted a kick since Oct. 15.

Only Colorado (13) attempted fewer field goals than the Utes (14) this season. The Utes will take on Penn State in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. PT.
