Smith will be the first Utah athlete inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He joins legendary head coach Ike Armstrong as the second Ute ever selected.
Smith had a decorated career with the Utes, throwing for 5,203 yards and 47 touchdowns while rushing for 1,072 yards and 15 scores. The leader of the 2004 squad that went undefeated, Smith was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and recognized as the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year and Sports Illustrated’s National Player of the Year.
After his Utah career, Smith played in the NFL for 16 seasons, making the Pro Bowl three times. Smith was named the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year in 2020 returning to the field after a life-threatening leg injury.
