USC will reportedly pay D’Anton Lynn $2 million per year across three years to be the Trojans’ next defensive coordinator, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.

Lynn is in his first season as the defensive coordinator at UCLA, but multiple reports on Friday night revealed he is nearing a deal to move into the same position for USC. According to Feldman, UCLA made a push to keep Lynn, but the USC offer was too good. Feldman reported Lynn will also receive a $500,000 housing stipend at USC.

The 34-year-old defensive coordinator orchestrated an immediate turnaround in his first season in Westwood.

UCLA’s defense gave up 29 points a game in 2022 (90th nationally). It has given up just 18 this season (16th). A year after finishing 72nd nationally in per-play defensive efficiency, UCLA currently sits eighth nationally.

USC will hope for similar year-over-year improvement in 2024.

The Trojans fired Alex Grinch after a 10-point loss to Washington at home on Nov. 4. The defense surrendered 40 points or more in a game five times during the regular season.
