The last time USC played UCLA at the Rose Bowl, the Trojans outscored the Bruins 20-3 in the fourth quarter to erase a double-digit deficit and walk away with a 43-38 victory in the crosstown showdown.

Both sides will be looking for some payback on Saturday. UCLA wants to avenge that loss. USC wants to make up for last year’s historic 62-33 loss to the Bruins at home. Adding to the hatred and the pageantry of the rivalry is the fact USC can secure a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game and eliminate UCLA from contention with a win.

ESPN’s College GameDay crew offered their picks on the game Saturday morning during the traveling pregame show. They were almost unanimous.

Here’s how the crew picked:

  • Desmond Howard: USC
  • Pat McAfee: USC
  • Nick Faldo (guest picker): USC
  • Lee Corso: USC
  • Kirk Herbstreit: UCLA

UCLA is looking for its first win over an AP Top 10 team since knocking No. 7 Texas in 2010. In pursuit of that, Herbstreit said he thinks quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson will play a crucial role. DTR and tailback Zach Charbonnet have powered an offense that runs to throw, and has done well at remaining on-schedule and in balance. UCLA has the only offense in the country with at least 2,600 pass yards and 2,400 rushing yards.

USC will be the toughest test yet. The Trojans have won seven of their last 11 meetings with UCLA in the Rose Bowl. This season, they’ve scored at least 40 points in eight of their 10 games and have gone over 500 yards of offense in four straight. Caleb Williams has been excellent of late, mounting a late-season charge for the Heisman Trophy with five total touchdowns in each of the last four games.

Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. PT on FOX.
