UCLA is making a move to give its students a chance to get up close and personal to the action.

On Wednesday, the Bruins confirmed the student section in the Rose Bowl — known as “The Den” — would be expanding. Beginning in the fall, the Den will expand to include the first 7-10 rows of sections 2 through 6. Those sections are notable because they are right behind the opponents’ bench.

“This move will make UCLA the first Big Ten institution to have their students located behind the opponent bench, improving home-field advantage and providing some of the best seats in the Rose Bowl to our loyal students,” the Bruins announced via press release.

The opportunity to fill that new portion of the student section will belong to the first 1,000 students on game days:

“The first 1,000 students (approximately) to arrive at the Rose Bowl will have the opportunity to support the Bruins up close.”

UCLA is preparing for the jump to the Big Ten and juggling a new head coach at the same time. DeShaun Foster has stepped in to lead the Bruins following Chip Kelly’s sudden and surprising move to leave the program to serve as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator.
