UCLA baseball posts dominant run-rule victory over Washington in Pac-12 Tournament
UCLA baseball entered Wednesday with its back against the wall in the Pac-12 Tournament. The Bruins responded, scoring double-digit runs and capping off a run-rule victory over Washington in 7 innings.
The scoring for UCLA started in the bottom of the 2nd when the Bruins plated 4 runs off Jared Engman. The Bruins jumped on Engman again in the 3rd inning, including back-to-back home runs from Jack Holman and Josh Hahn.
When it was all said and done, UCLA scored at least 3 runs every inning from the 2nd through the 5th. The 5th inning provided the final nail in the coffin for Washington with the Bruins plating 7 runs in the frame for the eventual 17-4 victory.
Every starter for UCLA registered a hit in Wednesday’s game with Duce Gourson leading the Bruins with 4 hits. Josh Hahn and AJ Salgado tied for the team lead with 4 RBI apiece while Jack Holman scored 4 runs in the rout.
On the mound, Kelly Austin had a strong outing for UCLA after getting through 5 innings with 3 earned runs allowed but 12 strikeouts on the afternoon. Chris Aldrich and Cody Delvecchio each worked a scoreless inning as the Bruins finished off the blowout.
