Dante Moore, the No. 3 quarterback in the Class of 2023, is hitting the transfer portal, 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported on Thursday.

It’s a huge loss for UCLA as Moore was the highest-rated quarterback recruit to ever sing with the program and the second-highest-rated prospect regardless of position. In his freshman season, Moore recorded 1,610 passing yards and 11 touchdowns with nine interceptions. He started five games and worked through major growing pains. Eventually, he ceded the starting job back to Ethan Garbers, and then had spot duty when Garbers was hurt.

Coming out of high school, Moore was the No. 5 player nationally, the No. 3 quarterback, and the No. 1 player out of Michigan. He held offers from LSU, Oregon, Arizona State, Arkansas, and others, ultimately deciding to play for Chip Kelly and the Bruins.

UCLA finished 7-5 this season and plenty of fans were calling for Kelly to be fired. The Bruins are sticking with him, however, as they reportedly decided on his retention earlier this week.

Now Kelly and UCLA will have to deal with some adversity as they lose Moore, and another team will be getting an outstanding young quarterback.
