DeShaun Foster is returning to UCLA, stepping in to lead the Bruins following the departure of head coach Chip Kelly to become the offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

It has been a whirlwind week for Foster and the Bruins. Last week, the star assistant coach penned a farewell to the program, confirming a move to the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders after spending the past 7 seasons on staff at UCLA.

Now, Foster is on his way back to the Bruins with UCLA confirming his hiring as the new head coach.  A star running back while playing for UCLA, Foster is also a member of the California High School Football Hall of Fame.

Foster described the opportunity as “a dream come true” and said the foundation of his program will be discipline, respect and enthusiasm.

As for the reaction to his hiring, the majority has been positive about landing a highly decorated alum and well-respected coach to step in and lead the program. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, UCLA interviewed 11 coaches but landed on Foster as a modern coach poised to handle the LA Market and UCLA’s move to the Big Ten.
