Stanford is putting together a strong 2024 recruiting class under head coach Troy Taylor. Unfortunately, the Cardinal lost one piece of that group Wednesday.

Kai Greer — an offensive lineman out of North Carolina — announced that he is backing off his pledge to Stanford and will reopen his recruitment. The wait for Greer’s next move should not be a long one as he announced he’ll reveal his commitment Wednesday night.

“After talking with my family and coaches, I am announcing that I will be decommiting from Stanford University,” Greer wrote on social media. “I would like to thank Coach Pehrson and the rest of the staff for recruiting me. That being said, I will announce my commitment later tonight.”

Greer is listed at 6-foot-6 and 285 pounds out of Marvin Ridge High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina. He is rated a 3-star IOL by the 247 Sports Composite and the No. 36 IOL for the class of 2024.

Prior to Greer’s announcement, Stanford held the No. 22 recruiting class in the country per the 247 Sports Composite. While the loss of Greer is notable, the Cardinal is still in a good spot to land a top-25 class for Taylor and his staff in the cycle. We’ll see how Stanford responds heading into the fall.
