Dan Lanning lost former Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham to Arizona State earlier this offseason.

Lanning was asked about his departure and his relationship with Dillingham at Pac-12 Media Day on Friday afternoon.

Lanning said he believes Dillingham will do an “excellent” job with the Sun Devils.

“He’s a phenomenal student of the game and he’s going to do an excellent job there,” Lanning said.

In addition to their 1 year at Oregon together, Lanning and Dillingham have crossed paths previously. They both served on Mike Norvells’ staff at Memphis in 2016-17.

Lanning indicated that he’s still very close with Dillingham.

“When you play him, it’s like playing your brother,” Lanning said.

Lanning and Dillingham will face off against each other this fall for the first time as opposing head coaches. Oregon will travel to Arizona State in for the penultimate week of the regular season on Nov. 18.
