Scott Barnes was hospitalized Saturday after a medical emergency.

The Oregon State athletic director was attending a Fresno State athletics awards presentation when he experienced a “medical event,” OSU announced. Barnes is receiving care at a Fresno area hospital, per a Pac-12 release.

“Scott Barnes is a dear friend, trusted colleague and incredibly loved man across the Oregon State and Pac-12 families and the entire college sports community,” the Pac-12 said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with Scott and his family at this time.”

Barnes, 60, has been Oregon State’s athletic director since Dec. 22, 2016. He has multiple decades of experience as an athletic director, getting his start at Humboldt State in 1997. He was also AD for Eastern Washington (1999-2005), Utah State (2008-15) and Pittsburgh (2015-17) before taking the OSU job. Barnes was with the Washington athletic department from 2005-to-2008 as a senior associate AD.

Barnes is a Fresno State alumnus. He played basketball for the Bulldogs.
