Priority edge rusher sets commitment date, Oregon a finalist
One of the more athletic edge rusher prospects in the Class of 2023 has settled on a commitment date, and the Oregon Ducks will be one of five teams he’s choosing from.
Blake Purchase, a 4-star edge rusher from Englewood (Colo.) Cherry Creek, will reportedly announce his college commitment live on the 247Sports YouTube page on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 5:15 p.m. PT. The Ducks are joined by Washington, Colorado, Notre Dame, and Iowa State among Purchase’s finalists.
A 6-foot-3, 240-pound prospect, Purchase was originally expected to announce a commitment in July but delayed that announcement. He took his official visits to Iowa State (June 10), Cal (June 17), Washington (June 21), and Oregon (June 24). Notre Dame offered a month later.
Purchase rates as the No. 34 edge prospect in the 2023 class and the 283rd overall recruit by the industry-generated 247 Composite. The folks at 247 love him, ranking him as the 122nd overall player in the class and the 14th-best edge rusher. (ESPN’s recruiting system rates him lower than Rivals and 247, hence the difference in national ranks.) He’s also the No. 1 overall prospect from the state of Colorado.
The talented athlete also plays basketball and participates in track and field for his high school. As a junior, he averaged 12.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, two assists, and two steals on the hardwood for Cherry Creek. On the football field, he was credited with 83 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, seven pass breakups, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery.
