Oregon has moved up to No. 5 in the updated College Football Playoff rankings.

The CFP selection committee unveiled their penultimate set of rankings live on ESPN Tuesday night. Following Ohio State’s loss to Michigan in Week 13, the committee dropped the Buckeyes down to No. 6, just behind Oregon.

Michigan (No. 2), Washington (No. 3), and Florida State (No. 4) all slid up one spot to fill the void. Heading into conference championship action, Oregon remains the highest-ranked one-loss team in the country. With a game against one of the four unbeaten teams left, it’s safe to assume Oregon is a win over Washington away from making it into the Playoff.

But the Ducks didn’t just rise because of what others did around them. You have to think the committee was impressed with a 31-7 win over Oregon State in which Oregon thoroughly controlled every phase of the game.

The Beavs got one first-quarter drive (a turnover on downs) and Oregon took a 21-7 lead into the halftime break. Oregon State’s five second-half possessions either ended with a turnover, a fourth-down stop, or a three-and-out.

For Oregon fans, this has become normal. Since the three-point loss to Washington on Oct. 14, Oregon has won by 14, by 29, by 44, by nine, by 36, and by 24 points. They’ve broken 30 on the offense side of the football in every game this season and they’ve held half of their opponents to 10 points or less on the other side.

That dominance has the Ducks favored heading into Friday night’s Pac-12 Championship Game. The Ducks face off against the Huskies at 5 p.m. PT on ABC.

CFP participants will officially be selected on Sunday.
