Oregon is working on the 2024 recruiting class while eying a top-10 finish under head coach Dan Lanning. On Monday, the Ducks pulled off one impressive flip to add to that group.

According to Hayes Fawcett with On3 Sports, 4-star defensive back Dakoda Fields has flipped his pledge from USC to the Ducks. Fields was a massive in-state commitment to the Trojans in June, but he took his official visit to Eugene later in the month.

Now, the 6-foot-2 and 185-pound cornerback out of Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California is a key piece to Oregon’s 2024 recruiting class.

“What really led me to picking Oregon was the genuine relationships I have with the staff,” Fields said about the move per Fawcett. “Coach Tosh, Lanning, and Meat have been applying pressure since day 1; even more since I committed to USC. They made it very clear that I was top priority.”

According to the 247 Sports Composite, Fields is a 4-star recruit and the No. 9 CB nationally for the 2024 recruiting class. The system also rates Fields as the No. 10 player from California and the 83rd overall player in the country.

Impact on Oregon’s 2024 class

Fields immediately becomes the 3rd-highest ranked commitment as things currently stand for the Ducks. That group is currently ranked No. 9 in the nation per the 247 Sports Team Composite.

Of the 22 commitments, Oregon currently holds pledges from 15 players with a 4-star rating. That includes fellow 4-star CB Ify Obidegwu, the 14th CB nationally per the composite rankings.
