Miami ultimately won its game against Southern Miss, but an interesting adventure to begin the affair led to a chorus of boos from inside Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.

The Mario Cristobal era at Miami is off to a less-than-surprising start, at least from the perspective of those who watched Cristobal’s former team. According to several media members in attendance, Cristobal and the Hurricanes were booed on their home field a little less than an hour after kickoff of their second game.

Miami didn’t score its first points of the game against the now 0-2 Golden Eagles until the 1:39 mark of the first quarter — a field goal to cap a 16-play, 68-yard drive that took six minutes and 14 seconds off the game clock.

Southern Miss immediately answered with a touchdown drive that ripped through the Miami defense — 75 yards in six plays and a little over two minutes.

That 7-3 Southern Miss advantage remained until Miami scored its first touchdown of the game with 20 seconds remaining until halftime. Shockingly, fans weren’t very happy with the performance.

Eventually, the Hurricanes found their footing on offense and pulled away from Southern Miss. Miami won 30-7, outscoring the Golden Eagles 14-0 in the third quarter to take control of the game. The win moved Miami to 2-0 on the season. With wins over Bethune-Cookman and Southern Miss, it has moved up to 13th in the AP Top 25. It faces No. 24 Texas A&M in College Station next Saturday.
