It must be another day ending in “—day” because Los Angeles Charges quarterback Justin Herbert has once again broken NFL Twitter.

The former Oregon star opened the 2022-23 season for the Chargers on Sunday with 279 passing yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in a 24-19 win over the rival Las Vegas Raiders. Herbert finished with a 76.5% completion rate (26-of-34) and a 129.4 quarterback rating.

The Chargers lost last January to the Raiders in overtime, 35-32. It ended Herbert’s season in excruciating fashion after a masterful performance from the quarterback put L.A. in a position to ultimately win the game and secure a spot in the playoffs. Instead, Herbert had to sit and stew on things all offseason.

So, when the 2022 schedule was released and the Raiders saw themselves as the Charges’ Week 1 opponent, they had to know what was coming.

A Charger win, and another freak performance from Herbert. The Chargers took a 17-3 lead into the halftime break after Herbert went 5-for-5 on passes that traveled more than 10 yards downfield.

Here’s some of Herbert’s highlight throws from the game, and reaction from around the NFL.
