Bo Nix will be drafted as a quarterback from Oregon, but he won’t shy from claiming Auburn during his professional career.

Nix, who is preparing for the 2024 NFL Draft, was asked during a recent interview on The Daily Wire whether if he had given the situation any thought. In the transfer portal era, there have been some heated debates over which schools and fanbases get to claim quarterbacks like Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts.

“Well, I’ll always be an Oregon Duck, that’s one thing that fortunately for me I was able to go and spend two incredible years there,” Nix told David Cone. “So I’m going to claim Oregon for as long as I can. But at the same time, I graduated from Auburn too, so I get to claim that part of it, too. I spent a lot of games at Auburn, too. I think it’s respectful and OK to claim both, but obviously when you’re doing announcements and stuff, right now I’m from Oregon because that’s the most recent one.”

Nix compared the situation to his childhood, noting that where you say you’re from doesn’t tell the whole story.

“It’s kind of like when you grow up,” Nix said. “I moved around a lot as a kid. I don’t say I’m from Charleston, even though I lived in Charleston for four years. I just say the most recent high school I was at, and that’s Pinson, Alabama. So I’m from Pinson Valley High School, and now I’m from Oregon. But I can always hold Auburn in my heart.”

Nix took full advantage of the NCAA’s COVID-19 extra year. He was a 61-game starter over five seasons (3 with Auburn, 2 at Oregon).

Nix is less than three months away from learning his new home. The 2024 NFL Draft will be held April 25-27 in Detroit.
