Colorado loses another to the transfer portal, this time starting corner Mekhi Blackmon
Colorado has now lost both its starting corners.
Christian Gonzalez hit the portal last month, and late Saturday evening Mekhi Blackmon followed his lead. “I am still confident in what Coach (Karl) Dorrell will do for the Colorado Buffaloes, but I am sad to say that I will not be a part of it as I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer,” Blackmon wrote on Twitter.

Blackmon has started the last two seasons at corner. An honorable mention selection to the all-conference team this season, the team captain had 41 tackles, four pass breakups, and an interception.
Originally from East Palo Alto, Calif., Blackmon spent a year at College of San Mateo before transferring to Colorado in 2018. While with the Buffs, he made 27 games appearances over four seasons, including 19 starts. He’ll have one season of eligibility left.
His departure marks the 15th of the offseason for Colorado, which also lost corners coach Demetrice Martin to Oregon. The Buffs’ replacement there, Rod Chance, will certainly have his work cut out for him as the room currently looks pretty green.
With Mekhi Blackmon and Christian Gonzalez both leaving after starting the past 2 years at CB, Colorado's most experienced corners, in terms of snaps played are:
Nigel Bethel: 202 snaps
Nikko Reed: 199
Kaylin Moore: 134
