Justin Wilcox confirmed that Cal running back Jaivian Thomas was taken to the hospital for testing after he left Saturday’s loss to Oregon with an apparent head injury.

Thomas was alert and interacting with doctors, according to Wilcox. The Cal head coach also told reporters that Thomas does have feeling in all of his extremities.

Thomas left the game in the third quarter after he appeared to hit his head hard on the field on a first-and-goal run. He stayed down and medical personnel quickly tended to him. They removed the facemask from his helmet, immobilized him on a stretcher, and then took him off the field on a cart.

Players from both teams surrounded him before he left the field. Thomas appeared to be awake and blinking while Cal players and coaches spoke to him before he left.

A 5-foot-10 freshman from Oakland, Thomas is in his first season with the Cal football program.
