It has been a tough day for the California Golden Bears football team. First, the Golden Bears lost to No. 16 Utah, 34-14. After the game, coach Justin Wilcox announced the team would be without star linebacker Jackson Sirmon for the remainder of the season.

Sirmon was hurt in the game last weekend against the Oregon State Beavers. He started his career at Washington where he played from 2018-2021. In his final season at Washington, he had 91 tackles.

In his first year at California last year, he had a monster year. He had 104 tackles, with 3.5 sacks 1 forced fumble and 1 interception. He led the team in tackles last season, and was second on the team this year with 46.

He was a captain on the team, and his presence will be missed. Another linebacker on the team, Cade Uluave said after the game that Sirmon was his leader and a guy he relied upon to be ready to play.

“It puts everyone in the locker room on notice,” Uluave said. “We have to be ready when our number gets called.”

The Golden Bears will have a week off to try and figure things out, before a home game against USC on Oct. 28.
