Jaydn Ott was over 100 rushing yards before Saturday’s game against USC reached the end of the first quarter.

The Cal running back had 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns from his first six carries. Cal ended the first quarter down just 17-14. The Bears fumbled two plays into their first drive, but Ott provided touchdowns on each of the next two possessions.

Ott ran right up the gut for 43 yards on Cal’s first score.

On Cal’s next possession, Ott exploded for 61 yards on the third play of the drive.

 

Just a little over three minutes into the second quarter, Ott pushed Cal ahead of the Trojans with a 4-yard touchdown run. Cal quarterback Fernando Mendoza converted a fourth-and-4 run for 12 yards earlier in the drive.

In Ott’s career, the Bears are 4-0 when he goes over 100 rushing yards.

USC entered the day ranked 92nd nationally in rushing defense, giving up 4.4 yards a carry through its first eight games. Led by Ott, Cal came into the game averaging 4.9 yards a carry on the ground.

After its first four drives against USC, Cal was averaging a cool 13.9 yards per carry.

At the time of publication, Cal led the 24th-ranked Trojans 21-17 early in the second quarter.
