Arizona quarterback Jayden de Laura is transferring to Texas State.

The former Wildcat spent two seasons in Tucson, but entered the transfer portal following the 2023 regular season in the hopes of landing somewhere he could compete for the starting job. On Monday, he announced his commitment to GJ Kinne and the Bobcats.

At Texas State, he’ll join a team that averaged nearly 37 points a game this season on its way to an 8-5 record.

The Bobcats do return their 2023 starter at the position, though.

TJ Finley transferred to Texas State prior to the year after spending time at LSU and Auburn. He started all 13 games for the school, throwing for 3,439 yards and 24 touchdowns against eight interceptions while completing 67% of his passes.

After winning the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman Player of the Year award with Washington State in 2021, de Laura joined Arizona prior to the 2022 campaign and turned things around dramatically. He threw for 3,685 yards and 25 touchdowns in his first year with the Wildcats, piloting an offense that ranked 11th nationally in efficiency.

He opened the 2023 season as the starter, but an injury in Week 4 knocked him out of the lineup and opened the door for Noah Fifita to step in and make his mark. Fifita played exceptionally well down the stretch, leading the Wildcats to seven consecutive wins and an Alamo Bowl victory.
