The star of the Territorial Cup is coming back to Tucson for his senior season.

Arizona running back Michael Wiley announced on Friday that he plans to return to the Wildcat backfield for the 2023 season, what will be his fifth year with the program.

Wiley was the team’s leading rusher this season, carrying the ball 113 times in 11 appearances for 771 yards and eight scores. He was at his absolute best in Arizona’s season finale win over Arizona State, running roughshod through the Sun Devil defense time and time again.

He ran for 214 yards and three scores on just 12 carries. In the 38-35 win, Wiley had runs of 21, 22, 51, and 72 yards.

The Houston native has 266 career carries at Arizona. His return for 2023 is a significant boost to the running back room for the Wildcats, which figures to be one of the deeper units in the Pac-12. DJ Williams is expected back, as are promising first-year backs Jonah Coleman and Speedy Luke.
