Less than one hour after Oregon State completed a stunning comeback to beat Oregon 38-34 in Corvallis, reports emerged that Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham is headed to Tempe.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Dillingham is finalizing a deal to become the Sun Devils’ next head coach. Dillingham is in his first year at Oregon after spending two years with Florida State. According to Sun Devil Source, an announcement is expected no later than Sunday.

At 32, Dillingham appears set to become the youngest head coach at the Power Five level. His first FBS coaching job came at Arizona State in 2014 when he worked as an offensive assistant under Todd Graham. He worked at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale prior to that.

Dillingham began his coaching career after he tore his ACL during his senior year of high school (2007). He began working with the junior varsity team before being elevated to the offensive coordinator role on the varsity squad at just 21 years old. Dillingham coordinated the No. 1 offense in the state of Arizona in 2013 as the Firebirds won 12 games and advanced to the Division II state championship game.

Arizona State parted ways with Herm Edwards after a Sept. 17 loss to Eastern Michigan at home. Interim coach Shaun Aguano led the program to a 2-7 record after Edwards’ departure. The Sun Devils’ season came to a close Friday with a 38-35 loss to Arizona in the Territorial Cup, capping the first nine-loss season in program history.

Oregon had a chance to clinch a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game on Saturday before the loss to Oregon State.

The Ducks put up 470 yards and 34 points in the game, the ninth time this season the Ducks topped 450 yards of offense and the 10th time they topped 30 points. Arizona State reached 450 yards of offense three times and 30 points just five times.
