Kenny Dillingham was in the pranking spirit on Saturday.

Midway through the team’s scrimmage period, the first-year Arizona State head coach paused practice to tell his team they were going to need to line up on the goal line and run sprints. When they got to the goal line, he changed his mind.

It was time for an impromptu dance competition.

And, of course, Dillingham had his own part to play. Ever the player’s coach, Dillingham showed he can do the worm.

It’s spring ball, so the vibes are already going to be a little more carefree than they would in something like fall camp. There’s more of an emphasis on turning a collection of talent into a team — something that’s especially true for an ASU squad working in so many new faces.

And Dillingham is often proving that he’s the kind of coach who can relate to his players and keep the mood in a locker room up.

How will good offseason vibes translate to on-field success in 2023? That’s anyone’s guess with Dillingham in his first year as a head coach. But after ASU labored through a disastrous and tumultuous 3-9 season last fall, getting the team to enjoy being around each other and enjoy going to work should be viewed as a win.
