Jayden Daniels receives Heisman praise from Herm Edwards, who reflects on time at Arizona State
Jayden Daniels transferred from Arizona State to LSU, but the quarterback still keeps in touch with his former coach, Herm Edwards, who now works at ESPN. In fact, Daniels and Edwards text one another weekly.
Edwards on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” on Sunday morning reflected on Daniels’ Heisman Trophy-winning season, and their relationship. Edwards said he felt good for Daniels’ parents and what he’s accomplished since leaving Arizona State.
“You could feel it,” Edwards said about expectations for this season. “I had the pleasure of coaching him when he was a young guy, a freshman. Watching the maturity not only as a quarterback, but as a young man. You think about this, he’s played 55 games of college football. That is the number, you want to play in the 50s because you really get to grow at the position, and he went down to LSU and won the hardest award you can actually try to win in college football, the Heisman.”
Edwards put it simply: “He deserves this award, there is no doubt about it.”
Last month, Edwards went on “The Dan Patrick Show” and said Daniels was one of 8 players he lost at Arizona State over NIL issues.
“One of them might win the Heisman, Jayden Daniels,” Edwards said then. “I had Jayden for 3 years, I had him as a freshman. He’s really good. Good kid, I talk to him probably once every other week.”
