Arizona State's first touchdown of 2022 comes from transfer quarterback Emory Jones
The first touchdown of the new Arizona State football season comes courtesy of the new Arizona State quarterback.
Emory Jones nearly found the endzone midway through the second quarter Thursday night against Northern Arizona, extending a third-and-goal with his legs and reaching for the goal line. Initially, it looked like he’d broken the plane, but replay review ruled him down at the half-yard-line, setting up a fourth-and-goal decision.
There was no hesitation from coach Herm Edwards and offensive coordinator Glenn Thomas. And Jones closed out the nine-play, 72-yard drive with six points via the QB sneak from the goal line.
The score put ASU up 10-0 with 8:05 to play in the second quarter.

The first touchdown for Emory Jones as a Sun Devil: a hard-nosed, goal-line keeper on fourth down.
The dual-threat ability may spark some deja vu, but Jones has proved over ASU's first three drives that it's not his only calling card. @DevilsDigest

Jones opened the game looking to be in good command of the new offense. On the team’s first three drives, he completed eight of his 10 passes for 96 yards and added 20 rushing yards on five carries.
The Sun Devils are battling Northern Arizona on the Pac-12 Network in their season-opener.
