Arizona State added to its 2024 class on Wednesday with a verbal commitment from a playmaker in the Lone Star State.

Fulshear (Texas) Katy Jordan wideout Zechariah Sample announced his commitment to ASU on social media. The Sun Devils are Sample’s only Power Five offer at the moment, but with two Texas receivers already in the class, it seems new wideout coach Ra’Shaad Samples — a Texas native with ties in the area after working on staff at SMU — is trusting his connections and his own evaluations.

Sample held other offers from Arkansas State, Jackson State, Tulsa, and UNLV, among others.

A 5-foot-11, 165-pound receiver, Sample is scheduled to take an official visit to Tempe on April 14 for the Sun Devils’ spring game. He’s already been to campus as an unofficial visitor.

He is not currently ranked by 247Sports or the 247 Composite, though that will likely soon change with his commitment to a P5 school. Sample posted 32 receptions for 595 yards and six touchdowns as a junior last fall. He had five pass breakups, three interceptions, and a pick-six on the defensive side of the ball. Sample is also a track athlete, with an 11.15 in the 100 meters.

The Sun Devils’ 2024 class is off to an understandably slow start, though maybe Sample’s commitment can start a run for first-year head coach Kenny Dillingham. He joins 4-star Mesquite (Texas) receiver Elijah Baesa in the class.
