Cal’s athletic department is switching apparel providers next summer.

The program announced this week that beginning in July of 2023, Nike will become the program’s exclusive provider of apparel, footwear, and team equipment. The Swoosh is taking over from Under Armour, which had been the athletic department’s outfitter since 2017.

Per a release, the partnership will officially begin on July 1 and run for three years.

“We are excited to enter into this new partnership that allows our 30 sports programs to be outfitted in Nike gear,” athletic director Jim Knowlton said in a statement. “It will continue to elevate our brand while providing our student-athletes and staff the resources they need to compete at the highest level.”

Cal was previously outfitted by Nike from 2003-2016. In 2017, the program entered into what was a 10-year, $86 million contract with Under Armour that was later terminated by the company in 2020, citing a lack of marketing benefits and financial difficulties associated with the pandemic.

Financial terms of the new three-year partnership with Nike were not provided.

With Cal’s announcement, nine Pac-12 teams will be wearing Nike next fall. Arizona State and Washington are outfitted by adidas. Utah is the only team still repping Under Armour. More than half of the FBS membership is outfitted by Nike.
