Dan Lanning, when he wants to be, is one of the most entertaining coaches in college football in front of a room full of reporters.

After the Ducks took down the 10th-ranked Utah Utes at home Saturday night, Lanning was asked about his quarterback and delivered one of the best one-liners of the weekend. Bo Nix was questionable to play in the game after an injury suffered against Washington a week ago. The Oregon quarterback went through the week preparing as if he’d be the guy, but uncertain if the opportunity would present itself.

Lanning was guarded when it came to questions about

Nix’s status throughout the week. Oregon wideout Kris Hutson was not. He told reporters on Wednesday that Nix was down and it was the next man up, leading to countless stories about Ty Thompson and what the Ducks would do without their star quarterback.

And then Nix played.

He was obviously still dealing with the effects of his injury, but he gutted out a 20-17 win for Oregon to stay in the race for a spot in the Pac-12 title game.

As for what the next 48 hours will look like for him in his recovery, Lanning will defer.

Lanning picked up two wins Saturday evening. You love to see it.
