The Spring Grove, Illinois, native originally committed to Kevin Sumlin at Arizona, then stuck with his commitment after current UA coach Jedd Fisch was hired. He was a 3-star prospect, via the 247 Composite.

Eckardt didn’t see any snaps for the Wildcats last season and decided to enter the transfer portal on Feb. 24. Listed at 6-foot-6, Eckardt was part of Richmond Burton (Ill.) teams that went a combined 31-2 during his varsity career, including 20-0 in his last two seasons. He was a first-team All-Region selection as a high school senior.
