Washington State to hire new wide receivers coach from Big 12, per report
As Washington State coach Jake Dickert looks to fill out his staff, he reportedly has a target in mind for his wideout coach.
According to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel, Texas Tech assistant Joel Filani is expected to be named as the school’s next wideout coach.
Sources: Washington State is expected to hire Joel Filani as the school’s next WR coach. Filani spent the last three years as Texas Tech’s outside receivers coach. He was a teammate of new WSU OC Eric Morris at Texas Tech and worked at WSU in a QC role in 2015.

A Texas Tech alum himself, Filani just wrapped his third season at his alma mater.
In his three seasons under Filani, wideout Erik Ezukanma has combined for 136 catches for 2,117 yards and 14 touchdowns, all while becoming the first Red Raider to lead the team in receiving yards in consecutive years since Jakeem Grant in 2014-15 and the first underclassman to do so since Crabtree in 2007-08.
He and new Wazzu offensive coordinator Eric Morris were teammates together at Texas Tech in the mid-2000s. As a player, Filani put up nearly 2,700 receiving yards and 23 scores from 2003-06. As a coach, he has developed all-conference wideouts everywhere he’s been.
