Washington State is rolling on the gridiron, and now that momentum is carrying over to the recruiting trail.

On Tuesday, the Cougars received a verbal commitment from Sacramento (Calif.) Grant Union athlete Wayshawn Parker. The 6-foot, 185-pounder is coming off an official visit to Pullman over the weekend, where he watched Wazzu beat a ranked Oregon State team 38-35.

Parker also held offers from Washington, San Jose State, UNLV, and Sacramento State.

Parker is a 3-star prospect in the Top247 — 247Sports’ own set of rankings. He doesn’t yet have a grade in the industry-generated 247 Composite, but that’ll likely change in the near future now that he’s in the Cougs’ class. He’s ranked as the No. 240 athlete in the Class of 2024 and the No. 222 prospect from the state of California.

Parker spent his first three seasons of high school at Elk Grove, where he did well as a running back. As a junior last fall, he ran the ball 51 times for 528 yards and five touchdowns. As a sophomore, Parker had 53 carries for 807 yards and 13 touchdowns.

At Wazzu, he’s expected to begin his career as a tailback.

With his verbal pledge, the Cougars now have their 16th known commitment in the Class of 2024. You can see his highlight tape below, via Hudl:
