Ron Stone Jr. is the national defensive player of the week after his role in helping Washington State upset Wisconsin last Saturday.

The Football Writers Association of America announced Stone as the Bronko Nagurski Trophy National Player of the Week on Tuesday. Stone had five tackles and two strip sacks in the Cougars’ 31-22 win over the Badgers.

Stone was also named the Pac-12 Defensive Player and Defensive Lineman of the Week on Monday for his efforts.

On back-to-back Wisconsin possessions in the second quarter, Stone sacked quarterback Tanner Mordecai and forced fumbles on both plays. The second strip sack came at the Wisconsin 2-yard line and was recovered by Brennan Jackson, who returned it for a touchdown to give WSU a 24-6 lead with just over two minutes left in the first half.

The 23rd-ranked Cougars (2-0) face Northern Colorado on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Network.
