ESPN’s College GameDay panel was split on Saturday’s Pac-12 headliner.

No. 13 Washington State travels to UCLA for the first time since 2015 to face a 3-1 Bruins team that’ll look for a much better showing than it had at Utah in Week 4. Both are coming off bye weeks, and when Washington State was last on the field, it earned its second top-25 win of the season to shoot up the rankings.

The Cougars are a slight road dog. Here’s how the GameDay panel picked:

  • Desmond Howard: Washington State
  • Pat McAfee: Washington State
  • Baker Mayfield (guest picker): Washington State
  • Lee Corso: UCLA
  • Kirk Herbstreit: UCLA

“Team that has great defense,” Herbstreit said of UCLA. “I think this will be the best defense Washington State has played to this point.”

ESPN’s Rece Davis noted that UCLA has only beaten a ranked Washington State team once.

The matchup between Wazzu’s offense and UCLA’s defense will be the one to watch — a true good-on-good matchup. The Bruins have the best defense in college football this season by efficiency, giving up only 3.8 yards per play. Cameron Ward, with 1,389 yards and 13 touchdowns and no turnovers, is eighth nationally in passer rating.

Kickoff is set for noon PT on the Pac-12 Network.
