Ohio State is making a run at Washington’s 2023 quarterback commit.

Pierre (SD) T.F. Riggs quarterback Lincoln Kienholz will take an official visit to Ohio State this weekend for the Buckeyes’ biggest game of the season — a top-five matchup with rival Michigan. Kienholz has been a verbal to Washington since June, but with the Buckeyes losing their own 2023 quarterback commit on Monday, it looks like they’ll lead a late charge for the fast-rising UW commit.

Kienholz told 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong he’s intrigued by Ohio State’s “past culture and tradition with their quarterbacks. It’s hard to argue with Ohio State’s offensive success of late — JT Barrett to Dwayne Haskins to Justin Fields to CJ Stroud is quite the run of quarterbacks — but it’s worth pointing out UW coach Kalen DeBoer has had plenty of success himself with college quarterbacks.

But Kienholz has seen his stock soar after a terrific senior season.

He accounted for nearly 5,000 yards of total offense and 70 touchdowns while leading the Governors to their sixth consecutive state title. Kienholz earned the MaxPreps South Dakota Player of the Year honor and ended his career with over 9,000 passing yards, 3,500 rushing yards, 148 touchdowns, and three first-team all-state selections.

The 6-foot-3 Kienholz ranks as the 24th-best quarterback in the 2023 class and the top prospect from the state of South Dakota, according to 247Sports Composite.

DeBoer was asked about commits taking visits elsewhere at his press conference on Monday and said every situation is different. (He is barred from specifically talking about unsigned recruits by NCAA rules.)

“When you’re committed, you’re committed,” DeBoer said.
